Writers Retreat
For the St. Mary's House Writers Retreat I wanted the writer to feel like they were in their own home. To give the house a home like feel I made each room look similar to a room in a house with simple colors and patterns in all of the rooms. I also added lots of hallways throughout. Each room has a specific function and a spot where the writer is able to write at.

Class Trip to Monticello and Falling Water!
Over the past two days I went on a field trip with all of the other first year Interior Architecture students to Monticello in Charlottesville Virginia to see the house that Thomas Jefferson lived in and also to Fallingwater in Bear Run Pennsylvania to see a home that the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed. Out of these two places my favorite house was definitely Fallingwater. I loved this house so much. Before I went on the trip I had seen pictures of the house on the outside and I thought it was really interesting looking and very well designed, I however had no idea until I actually got to experience it in person. Just approaching the place by bus already made me have several thoughts. I knew that it had to of been way out in the woods and secluded based on the fact that the roads we took to get there were very long and winding almost as if they were never ending. Once I walked down to the actual house I was surrounded by nothing but nature at its finest. Being here made me feel so disconnected from the outside world and all of the problems it may have. When I first walked in the house it was like a whole new sense of what it actually was. I thought nothing could get better than the outside until I walked in and saw the inside, it was incredible. There were so many little details from the floor all the way to the ceiling. The main room was so great in size, it completely brings the house all together. This room could accommodate for some many functions and hold lots of people. The most amazing part to me was walking out on all of the many balconies. They all looked over the river. I can imagine how peaceful it would truly be to just sit out on the balcony and relax, the sound of the flowing water below would be wonderful. I feel like if I lived in this house I would tend to get lost in it. There are just so many little areas and rooms in it. That shows just how complex and greatly designed it really is. Another cool part of it was in the main room there is glass that opens up to a staircase leading down to the actual water. In the bed rooms up stairs there are narrow vertical windows that open up to the outside letting the noise of the moving water just flow right in the room. This makes you feel as though you are outdoors without actually being outside. One of my favorite aspects of this house was how Frank Lloyd Wright when he designed it tried to bring the outdoors inside, he was very successful at doing this. Each room looks like an outdoor area with all of the stone work surrounding you. The tour guide explained to me how the hallways are very dim lit and have low ceiling because it directs you into the rooms and out of the hallways. This was the case for me, it did just that. After exiting the house it felt as though my eyes had been opened to a whole new world. It made me truly view architecture and design in a whole new light. I think in the future it will really help me to think outside of the box and not just stick to what is perceived to be the normal or what people typically would do. I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to embark on this trip. I recommend it to everyone. I would even love to go back again and again!

Social Media Research On Qatar.
After researching Qatar in general and the social networking in Qatar I found out many new things that I had no knowledge of at all before. When I first found out that this was the country I was required to do my research on, my initial reaction was that I had no idea where it was located or even what it was for that matter. Therefore, all of the things I found out about it were new and interesting to me.
One of the main things that I kept coming across when doing my research was that Qatar had the highest facebook support of any bid to try to get the FIFA World Cup to be held there in 2022. So far there are almost six hundred thousand supporters of this facebook page. There is also a twitter page created for this same event. The twitter has almost four thousand followers thus far. The fact that this countries bid is currently the highest shows that quite a lot of people using popular social networking sites have been viewing this and keeping up with it. Not only have people who live in the country of Qatar been “liking” it on facebook, but eleven other countries have been supporting it as well. The common age group of the supporters is from individuals between the ages of thirteen and twenty-four, with most of them being females. This I find to be a very interesting statistic because it shows that the majority of the people using facebook seem to be very young. Compared to USA I think that the facebook users here have a much broader age group. Another shocking statistic that I found was that there are roughly one hundred and twenty five million facebook users in the United States and only fifteen million in Middle East and North Africa. This truly shows that facebook is much more of a common thing in America. It shows that our lives revolve so much around it that for some people it consumes their life. But in other countries such as Qatar it is not nearly as much of a priority and it is something that they do not need to fulfill their daily lives. That is nothing less than what I expected though. I have always thought that other countries did not rely on the internet and social networking in particular for things that we do here. I actually think that it is a good thing that Qatar does not have nearly as many users because there are so many more important things in life that one should focus on. I am not saying that facebook is a bad thing, but I think that it is good that not very many people in this country have a facebook account.
I also found a news article about a girl from Qatar who has a secret identity online. In real life she is a seventeen-year-old Syrian girl but online she has multiple identities. Online she does not share her name, age, or where she is from. No one online viewing her social networking sites knows who she really is. She sees her online identity as being someone she is not in real life; she thinks she is more interesting to people online. To her it is like an entirely new world when she is online. This I find to be a bad thing, I feel like if this one girl is doing it imagine how many other people around the world that are as well. It brings the question to mind, do we really know whom we are talking to when we are conversing with others online? We can only hope that we do. While viewing the article about this girl I found a few more interesting statistics. There are nearly fifty six million internet users in the Arab world; this number is expected to double with in the next three years. That shows that the internet is expanded so much and will soon consume many people’s lives.

New Blog Header
After being assigned the project of making a new blog header that represents me as a designer I ultimately thought of a camera. This is something that never fails to keep me inspired. Whether I am actually photographing things I see and encounter or viewing photographs that have already been taken by either me or other peoples, I am constantly thinking. Doing this allows my mind to really think and explore endless possibilities, I become a more creative individual. This header is similar to the last one in many ways but it is different because we now are about to use the computer to explore many fonts. The reason I chose the fonts that I did was because one font is very girly, fun and bubbly. The other font is very plain, simple and to the point. These are both like me at different times. Just like last semester I find this project to be interesting and a great way to show who I am!

Second Year Critique
After watching several second year Interior Architecture students present their projects today I had many thoughts about what I saw. The two that stood out most to me was one of a plexi glass material and one made of cardboard. The plexi glass one was inspired by the human spine and it is designed to be something that a person can walk through. It appears like a tunnel of clear objects shaped in a dome type of way that all work together to create the whole, just like an actual spine. The other presentation was based on the repetition of triangles in a series. It is interactive and can be collapsed down or expanded out. it is sort of a tunnel like shape that someone could go through, that serves more than one purpose. It has a consistent overlapping theme. Each of these have a model that can be held and a poster to help express the idea. They were both highly effective idea that could be made in real life and used. The critique involved a series of questions and explorations concerning their models. They had to look at the paper as a structure and space. They also explored various materials and focused on the surface of the one that they selected.

Composite Drawing
I drew this to show a plan view, a section view, an elevation and a expressive rendition of my light project.
Seeing The Light
This is my light project from many different views. I was inspired by the light that shines through the leaves of trees. I tried to express this with my luminare. It not only shows the light on the wall but it also is shown by looking at the front of the actual model.
Wood Project
For this project using only a two by four piece of wood I used various types of saws and created this. I made sure to have a place for each piece and I used every single piece that I cut, not letting any go to waste. All of the pieces work together to form this as a whole, they are wedged into one another using nothing the wood, no nails or anything else.
Personal Reflection
This past semester I have created many drawings, all of different things in various scales of many subjects. When I was putting together my final portfolio I observed all of my drawing beginning with the very first one all the way until my most recent one. I think that I have improved a great deal. There are many things that I noticed looked better. The line quality is one of the main things that has improved. I also now fully understand how to draw things to scale by using the scale ruler. I learned how to draw many things in all ways including the pictorial views, orthographics, section drawings, perspective, along with sketching. I feel like this wooden letter E that I drew in plan oblique, elevation oblique, and isometric is my most successful drawing from this semester. I think it is well done because it is very exact with good line quality. I also made sure to draw every line at the correct and accurate length to ensure it looked just like the real thing.
Scale Figures
This one is a contour line drawing of people from the class, I drew all the people around one person but not the person in the middle.
This drawing was of a few people from class, it is drawn at 3/8":1' scale. It shows just the basic lines of the people with minimal detail.

Light Luminaire
The above are sketches I made of possible ideas of a light luminaire that I would like to create. My thoughts behind this were to thoroughly observe and study the effect of sun light shining through the leaves and branches of various trees. I really would like to express this idea in a manner that gets the point across and is easily known but is not quite so obvious and recognizable.
Viewing Sketch Books
This was created by Cory Odell, I think he did well with showing the shadows of the object and the light coming through it.
This was created by Christine Lumans, she did a great job at showing the contrast between the dark and light of the wood grains. It looks very real as if I was looking right at it.
The above three sketches are ones from my own sketch book that show different parts of my wood project, from different views of it. I tried to focus mainly on the different grains in the wood and the various patterns and lines that it creates. I found that aspect of my wood project to be very interesting. I also tried to focus on how the pieces of wood are held together, one with inter locking pieces and the other way was with a rod holding them together.
